Based on the Jonathan Mark Sherman play Veins and Thumbtacks, 'The
Jimmy Show', set in the 1970s and '80s, is about Jimmy (Frank Whaley),
a failed New Jersey inventor who abandons his work to become a stand-up
comedian. Audiences on the amateur comedy circuit aren't known for
their gentility, and following several disastrous shows, Jimmy takes
up a new "profession," boozing, which further strains his
relationship with his family.
